Erik is a PhD student in the Insight Centre for Data Analysis, Galway. He is part of the Unit for Information Mining and Retrieval (UIMR) under the supervision of Dr. Conor Hayes, where he is studying online user behaviour and success of online communities, using a data-driven approach with elements of data analysis, machine learning, and agent-based simulation. He joined the Insight Centre for Data Analysis, Galway (formerly the Digital Enterprise Research Institute/DERI) for a research internship in 2010. In 2012, he received a University Diplom (Germany) in computer science at his home university, the University of Technology, 98693 Ilmenau, Germany. Between 2011 and 2013, Erik was involved in the EU project ROBUST (Risk and Opportunity management of huge-scale BUSiness communiTy cooperation) in cooperation with international partners such as IBM, SAP and The Open University. During his PhD studies, he has tutored object oriented programming and Java courses under Conor Hayes, and co-organised the 2015 Insight Student Conference together with fellow PhD students. Outside of work, Erik is contributing to the community by volunteering for the CAMARA charity between 2011 and 2016, and taking care of the Insight Galway community bicycles since 2013.
