CAO 2017: Aoibheann talks tech challenges to the Irish Times
CAO offers time didn't bring good news for tech as points for a large number of technology and engineering courses dropped again in 2017. The lack of demand for these courses is discouraging especially given all the initiatives aimed at encouraging young people in to STEM. Our own Aoibheann Bird spoke to the Irish Times's Peter McGuire about this and made the point that schools won't offer STEM subjects, to girls in particular, unless there's demand for them. But how do you create a demand for a subject that isn't on offer in the first place? Younger students need to see older students studying physics and technology.
