Professor Eileen Gibney is the Director of the UCD Institute of Food and Health and a Funded Investigator at the Insight Research Ireland Centre for Data Analytics. She has been appointed Chair of the EU’s  Healty Diet, Healthy Life (HDHL) initiative, bringing together 14 countries to align research programming and fund research into diet-related chronic disease. It received funding under the European Horizon 2020 Pathway.

She also co-leads the Co-Centre for Sustainable Food Systems, which aims to position the island of Ireland and the UK as global leaders in sustainable research and innovation. She will collaborate in her role at HDHL with Vice-Chair Edith Feskens.

‘The shared vision across countries in Europe to a common goal really resonates with me,’ said Professor Gibney. ‘I feel the collective and common view to improve our food systems and population health is important. Through initiatives like HDHL, this is fostered and nurtured in what seems like an increasingly fragmented society.”
