Dr. Lan Yang

Post-Doc

Dr Lan Yang (PhD, MEngSc, ME, BE) works as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Unit for Social Semantics at Insight, University of Galway. She completed her PhD in September 2020 at University of Galway, funded by Hardiman Scholarship, co-supervised by Tsinghua University. Before joining Insight, she delivered lectures in the College of Science and Engineering and Centre for Adult Learning and Professional Development and conducted research at the Enterprise Research Centre of University of Galway.

Her research interests include

  • formal ontologies,
  • knowledge graphs,
  • semantic web,
  • big data,
  • healthcare analytics,
  • medical informatics.

She has constantly been cooperating with reputed universities and organisations such as Tsinghua University, the University of Oxford, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and the International Council on Systems Engineering and publishing papers in leading journals, including IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, Computers in Industry, Sustainability (Switzerland). Her research achievements have been recognised through plenary presentations at international conferences and symposia. She is a reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals in her field and a scientific committee member for many international conferences.

Her current research projects at Insight include

  • OntoCommons – Ontology-driven data documentation for Industry Commons, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (2021 – 2023)
  • The DXA (Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry) Management Application Project (MAP), funded by the HRB Awards Secondary Data Analysis Projects (2021 – 2023)
