Claudia is the Lead Research Engineer at RecSys Labs where she is working on building a recommender system with explainability, privacy, and personalization at its core. She holds a PhD in Computer Science, her thesis focused on analyzing and understanding the characteristics of news posts in Social Media that attract attention from the audience. Claudia leverages the power of machine learning, natural language processing, social network analysis, and opinion mining to unveil patterns of engagement, attention and influence on the digital news era. In 2016, Claudia joined the MIT Media Lab for the summer and worked at the MIT Center for Civic Media (https://civic.mit.edu/) where she conducted research with the MediaCloud team (http://mediacloud.org/) on identifying influential American news outlets.
Before joining UCD for her Ph.D. studies, Claudia completed her M.Sc. (2013) at the L3S Research Center in the Leibniz University in Hannover, Germany, where she worked on several European research projects involving crowdsourcing, multimedia and sentiment analysis for tasks such as video ranking and presidential popularity prediction. Claudia holds a B.Sc. (2011) degree from the University of El Salvador (UES).
