Posted : 20 May 2021
Closes : 9 June 2021
Location : UCD

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Computer Science.

Description: What is the role of migration in the dynamics of cultural development as
regards gender, ethnicity, and demography? To answer this question, the EU-funded
VICTEUR project will work with the SFI-funded Insight Centre for Data Analytics at
UCD to explore large-scale historical text corpora from a computational perspective.
This will allow us to study intra-European migration during the 19th century through
the ‘macroscope’ of machine learning and the ‘microscope’ of literary scholarship.
The successful candidate for this role will work on developing new computational
methods that use text mining and natural language processing to extract insights and
trends from large collections of historical texts provided by the British Library.

Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline, with a
proven track record of research and publications in the areas of text mining and/or
natural language processing. Excellent programming skills are essential. Ideally the
candidate will also have some past experience of working with researchers from other
disciplines.
