SFI INSIGHT Centre students at University College Cork(UCC) win 1st prize in the international Elektor/Maxim electronics competition with a project on Internet of Things security using Artificial Intelligence

A fantastic UCC student team won the 1st prize in the prestigious international competition MAXIM/Elektor AI Design Contest. Our talented Electrical and Electronic Engineering students are Dominic Lightbody(team lead), Duc-Minh Ngo(both 1st year PhD students researching Internet of Things security at the SFI INSIGHT Research Centre) and Cathal Kelly, a 3rd-year undergraduate student. They were joined on the podium by two teams from prestigious Universities in China (Beijing) who came second and Switzerland (Zurich) who came third. The students are supervised/mentored by Dr Emanuel Popovici (INSIGHT), Dr. Colin Murphy and Prof. Andriy Temko.

This award also comes with many perks for the winning team including the prize of 2000 euro for the students, boards, and magazines but more importantly a lot of publicity, prestige and validation at a Global stage of their high-quality work here at INSIGHT and UCC. Following their success, MAXIM Integrated already was in touch to establish collaboration with the team and the INSIGHT Centre.  More information about the winning projects and the competition can be found on: https://www.elektormagazine.com/ai-contest-max78000
