Sports analytics and wearables company announces plans in Boston event with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar

14 March 2024, Boston:  Output Sports, a spinout of the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics at UCD, has announced a major expansion of its US operations. The company plans to expand their work across Major League Baseball including targeting a collaboration with the Boston Red Sox as part of the company’s investment in the State of Massachusetts.

Output Sports allows coaches, sport scientists and rehab professionals to optimise athlete performance using a single wearable sensor system. The company’s technology is currently in use in more than 30 countries across a range of sports.

The firm is headquartered at NovaUCD in Dublin and recently established an office in Boston. Output Sports was launched in 2020 by then Insight SFI Centre members Martin O’Reilly, Darragh Whelan, Julian Eberle and Prof Brian Caulfield, a founding director of the Insight SFI Centre.

‘The success of Output Sports is a testament to the vibrant interdisciplinary research culture that has been created in the Insight SFI Centre, and it has been an honour to work with Martin, Darragh and Julian on their journey to success,’ said Professor Brian Caulfield.

In late 2022 Output Sports launched a V2 product which has led to significant US growth attracting over 300 new clients, including the NFL, WNSL, MLB, NHL, WNBA and NBA. The company’s mission is to make elite level sports science simple and scalable.

Insight is taking the lead on global sports analytics and Output Sports is a great example of our impact in this fast developing and valuable sector.’
