Insight members feature prominently in Science Foundation Ireland coverage of AI research in Ireland. Professor Alan Smeaton and Professor Barry O’Sullivan are both quoted in the piece with Smeaton offering a definition of AI and O’Sullivan answering the question of why AI is important. Read about it here.

Professor Noel O’Connor and Dr Suzanne Little of Insight@DCU feature in a video, alongside Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation Heather Humphreys TD, which gives an overview of the state of AI research in Ireland. O’Connor and Little also feature in separate videos profiling their own research. You can view these videos here.

Professor Alan Smeaton is interviewed for a piece about how AI may be used in the future to tackle the problem of toxic livestreaming. In the piece he talks about the current challenges that the industry faces – mainly that human moderators face a dispiriting job and that human moderation is not scaleable – and the research that will be necessary in order to use AI to reliably detect this kind of content. You can read that piece here.

In addition, Dr Georgiana Ifrim of Insight@UCD’s machine learning research is highlighted in an article which you can read here. In the article Dr Ifrim talks about her collaboration with Professor Brian Caulfield, Dr Darragh Whelan and Dr Martin O’Reilly to develop a amart mobile app that assesses how someone carries out physiotherapy exercises at home and provides feedback about how they are doing.
