Insight at the University of Galway Event: Data Science Showcase 3 Nov 2022

As part of a series of data science showcases being hosted by the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics nationally, the Insight team at the University of Galway will host a workshop on Nov 3rd, 2022. AI and data analytics are the most consequential technologies of the 21st century. In this workshop we will address two topics inherent to driving forward advances in data science:

  1. Bias, Diversity and Inclusion
  2. Resiliency in a Post Pandemic World

The workshop will consist of keynote speakers, leadership panels, and presentations from data scientists working in these research fields. Round off the day by exploring our infamous computer science museum and experience the evolving technological landscape across the decades.

  • 13.20 – 14.50 Session 2: Resiliency in a Post Pandemic World

  • 15:00 -17.00 (Optional) Session 3: Computing and Communications Museum of Ireland In Session 1, Lorna Martyn, Regional Chair & SVP, Technology from Fidelity Investments Ireland leads out with the keynote talk of this session on Bias, Diversity and Inclusion, followed by presentations from data science projects representative of this research space. This will be complimented by a leadership panel discussion centred on understanding your organisation, the role of cultural change and enablement of it and how the need for explainability can be adopted.

In session 2, “Resiliency in a Post Pandemic World” we will consider how data in a post pandemic world can be utilised for better preparedness. The session will be led out with a keynote talk from Prof. Máire Connolly, Professor of Global Health, VENPREP Principal Investigator, Vice-Dean of Engagement & Internationalisation, CMNHS at University of Galway. Her areas of expertise include health security, disease surveillance, emerging infectious diseases, pandemic preparedness and humanitarian emergencies.
