Professor Barry O’Sullivan joined Oxford University’s Nick Bostrom on The Conversation, an arm of RTE’s new show Upfront with Katie Hannon. Bostrom and O’Sullivan had a conversation about the rise of AI. O’Sullivan is an optimist about AI, seeing it being designed by humans and under the control of humans. Bostrom is more wary, anticipating that AI could advance more quickly than expected and perhaps exceed human intelligence although he added that he is very eager and excited for the vast potential upsides of this transformative technology.
