Insight members Professor Alan Smeaton and Professor Susan Leavy addressed the first meeting of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on AI, Chaired by Deputy Malcolm Byrne. This was also the first time Research Ireland was presenting to a committee in the Houses of the Oireachtas, with Deputy CEO Ciaran Seoighe addressing the Committee .

Over the course of nearly two and a half hours, there were wide ranging questions covering health, sustainability, regulation, policy development, trust, the digital divide, education and much more. The work of Insight’s Patricia Maguire and her team on AI PREMie was given as an example of AI success in Ireland.
