The Artificial Intelligence Association of Ireland (AIAI), together with the ADAPT Research Ireland Centre for AI-Driven Digital Content Technology and the Insight Research Ireland Centre for Data Analytics is delighted to announce that Ireland has been selected to host the 32nd European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI 2029) – Europe’s most prestigious gathering of AI researchers and innovators.

The conference will be held at The Convention Centre Dublin (CCD) from 20-24 October 2029, bringing more than 1,400 delegates from across Europe and beyond to the Irish capital. The event will feature cutting-edge research presentations, keynote lectures, tutorials, workshops, exhibitions, and industry sessions from the world’s leading AI experts.

A National Effort Behind a Global Event

The successful bid was led by the Artificial Intelligence Association of Ireland (AIAI), the representative body for AI researchers across the island, with support from the ADAPT and Insight research centres. The local organising committee brings together representatives from every major university in Ireland, North and South, and demonstrates the collaborative strength and inclusivity that defines the country’s AI ecosystem.

We are also grateful for the support and engagement of our industry partners, including Microsoft, IBM, Calypso AI, Shutterstock, Intercom, Genesys, and Fidelity Investments, as well as from IDA Ireland, and other research centres and partner groups such as the Artificial Intelligence Collaboration Centre (AICC), the ARC Hub for ICT, and Dublin City Council. Their collective backing reflects the strength of Ireland’s AI community and its commitment to advancing responsible and impactful innovation.

We thank all of these partners for their invaluable contributions and look forward to continuing our collaboration as we prepare to deliver a truly world-class event.

Professor Michael Madden, Chair of AIAI and Professor of Computer Science at the University of Galway and AIAI, said:

“The European Association for Artificial Intelligence were impressed by the fact that Ireland put forward an all-island bid, led by our major universities and AI-focused research centres, and supported by a wide range of companies and agencies. This success is a great testament to the collaborative tech and AI ecosystem in Ireland.”

Dr. Brian Mac Namee
, School of Computer Science, University College Dublin and Insight Research Ireland Centre for Data Analytics, added:

“To be able to bring such a large group of expert AI researchers to Ireland is a massive opportunity to build our reputation in this area, and to strengthen international collaborations. It has been fantastic to be able to bring such a strong group of organisers from the most important AI research centres from all across the country and leading AI industry partners together to plan and deliver this conference, which should be a huge success.”

Professor Barry O’Sullivan, School of Computer Science & IT, University College Cork, and Insight Research Ireland Centre for Data Analytics, said:

“I’m delighted that we have the opportunity to bring Europe’s premier AI conference to Ireland. This will be the first time that the European Conference on AI will be held here and presents a unique opportunity to showcase the strength of AI in the country. It is also such an honour to be involved in such a wonderful all-island initiative like this.”

Prof John Kelleher, Director of ADAPT, the Research Ireland Centre for AI-Driven Digital Content Technology and Chair of Computer Science at Trinity College Dublin, said:

“Ireland has become a vibrant hub for cutting-edge AI research, innovation, and collaboration. Artificial intelligence is already part of so many aspects of our lives, and over the next few years it will become even more central to how we live and work. Having ECAI 2029 in Dublin is a real vote of confidence in Ireland’s growing international profile in AI. By the time the conference comes around, I’m confident our research community will be even stronger and more globally recognised for leading the way in building trustworthy, human-centered AI.”

Professor Michaela Black, School of Computing, Engineering and Intelligent Systems, University of Ulster, added:

“We are delighted to be part of this bid and the organising committee. Hosting ECAI 2029 will provide the Island of Ireland with a unique opportunity to showcase our excellence in responsible AI research and innovation, while enabling networking, collaboration and knowledge exchange among academics, researchers, policymakers and industry across Europe. AI Centres at Ulster University, including the ISRC, CARL and AICC, will bring strong support to the organising committee and help showcase world-leading advances in AI, NeuroAI and Neuromorphic Engineering research and innovation across Northern Ireland.”

Ireland: A Thriving AI Ecosystem

Ireland has emerged as one of Europe’s foremost centres for AI and data science, supported by national research funding, strong links between academia and industry, and an open, collaborative ethos. The country is home to major international technology companies, including Google, Microsoft, IBM, Intercom, Shutterstock, and Meta, alongside a dynamic network of start-ups and world-renowned universities.

The theme proposed for ECAI 2029, Trustworthy and Sustainable AI, reflects Europe’s collective focus on the responsible development and application of artificial intelligence – and Ireland’s leadership in this area.

Partners in Excellence

The professional management of the conference will be led by Keynote PCO, one of Ireland’s most experienced international congress organisers.

“We are absolutely delighted that Ireland has been selected to host the European Conference on Artificial Intelligence in 2029! Supporting the local organising committee in developing such a strong and inspiring bid was a true pleasure. We are incredibly excited to continue our partnership to deliver a world-class conference that will shine an international spotlight on Ireland’s innovation, creativity, and collaborative spirit.”

Kasia Mahony, Director of Business Development, Keynote PCO

A World-Class Venue and Experience

The Convention Centre Dublin will provide a world-class setting for the conference, with state-of-the-art facilities, flexible meeting spaces, and a commitment to sustainable events.

“We are delighted to have been chosen as the host venue for ECAI. This is a key event that brings together researchers and practitioners to explore the latest trends, challenges and innovations in artificial intelligence, a sector that continues to thrive in Ireland. Hosting international conferences of this calibre further highlights the attractiveness of Dublin as a destination, as well as the strength of Ireland’s business events industry.’’

Stephen Meehan, Chief Executive, The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD)

The event also benefits from strong national support. Fáilte Ireland, the National Tourism Development Authority, has committed funding through its Meet in Ireland programme to help bring the event to Ireland.

Showcasing AI Across Ireland

ECAI 2029 will feature contributions from research groups and centres nationwide, ensuring representation from every corner of Ireland’s AI community, from Belfast to Cork, Galway to Dublin. The programme will include workshops, student events, industry showcases, and opportunities for public engagement to inspire the next generation of AI talent.
