Dr. Rachael Rafter is a Research Scientist at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics, University College Dublin, working with Barry Smyth's research group. She received her PhD from UCD in 2010 for her work on recommender systems with a thesis entitled "Evaluation and Conversation in Collaborative Filtering", having previously received an MSc by research in the same area entitled "Passive Profiling and Collaborative Recommendation". During her PhD, she spent a year as a visiting researcher at the InstitutD'Investigacio en Intel.ligencia Artificial in Barcelona, Spain. She has since worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Trinity College Dublin for 2 years with Vincent Wade's Knowledge and Data Engineering Group, before returning to UCD to continue her postdoctoral work. Her current research still focuses primarily on recommender systems, but also more broadly on machine learning, data mining and media analytics.
