Paul is a Lecturer in Techinnovation at the College of Engineering & informatics and a design-based implementation researcher at the National University of Ireland, Galway. He is the programme manger at Techinnovate and the co-cordinator of the MSc in TechInnovation at NUIG. As a learning scientist, Paul’s research interests centre on innovation and entreprenuership education, and the potential of design-based imlpementation research as a model for innovation-driven enterprises to develop scalable commerical projects. He is particualry interested in helping researchers explore, develop and realise the commerical potential of their work.

Paul is curently Co-PI on the STARTED Project with Dr. John Breslin. STARTED will put in place a project-based learning approach for developing entrepreneurial skills (and spirit) in researchers, to foster interactions between stakeholders in R&D innovation, and to guide the transfer of innovative research projects through to becoming robust startup opportunities: STARTED

In addition, Paul is also the Co-Principal Investigator with Dr. Tony Hall at NUI Galway for the REX Project (Research Expertise Exchange), funded by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, to design and develop an online portal to support the integration of educational academic research and teacher professional practice:

He was formerly a secondary school teacher of Mathematics, History, English, ICT and Business Entreprise through the LVCP Programme. Paul has collaboratively undertaken research accross a number of settings including: primary, secondary, post-compulsory educational settings and in partnership with industry. In 2017 Paul was nominated and subsequently elected a Fellow of the International Society for Design and Development in Education (ISDDE)
