Dr. Liam Sweeney

Postdoctoral Researcher

I am a postdoctoral researcher on the Moving Well Being Well (MWBW) research project in the School of Health and Human Performance and the Insight Centre for Data Analytics at Dublin City University. The MWBW project aims to get children moving and involved in physical activity and sport. MWBW focuses on increasing physical literacy in young children in order to give them the tools required to be active for life. The research projects runs interventions in schools and communities across the country, with the primary aim to give children the necessary skills to participate in any form of sport/physical activity, whilst also upskilling the teachers and coaches within the community.

I completed my PhD at the School of Health and Human Performance in DCU in July 2023, which was funded by the Irish Research Council Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme. My PhD examined talent development in the Football Association of Ireland’s male player pathway. My PhD research undertook a mixed-methods approach, examining various aspects of player development, including physical, physiological and psychosocial elements of player development. Prior to the completion of my PhD, I attained a first class masters degree with honours in Exercise Physiology at the University of Galway, and a first class degree in Sport and Exercise Science with honours at the University of Bedfordshire.
