Ali Naeem

Ph.D. Student

Optimisation & Decision Analytics

email ali.naeem@insight-centre.org
Ali Azzam Naeem received his B.Eng. (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bristol in 2012. He then undertook a research placement at Imperial College London under the supervision of Dr Ravi Vaidyanathan. Azzam supported a project that was developing a biosignal classification framework for human-machine interaction. The system was based on prescribed tongue ‘flicks’ which propagate mechanically to the ear canals and can be recorded by sensitive microphones placed within the ear. Azzam’s contribution to this project was to develop a control link which allowed this framework to manipulate a prosthetic hand. Following this placement, Azzam worked in industry for 6 months after which he continued his studies at University College Cork completing an M.Sc. in Mathematical Modelling and Scientific Computing in 2014. For his Masters thesis, he developed software for simulating and evaluating different strategies for evacuating city traffic during emergency. This research was supervised by Dr Kieran Mulchrone. Currently, Azzam is a Ph.D. student at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics, University College Cork working under the supervision of Professor Ken Brown. His research focus is on Data Mining and Decision Analytics.
