Aaron Duane and Cathal Gurrin, in collaboration with Wolfgang Hurst (University of Utrecht) won the inaugural Lifelog Search Challenge at ACM International Conference on Multimedia Retrieval 2018 (ICMR 2018) in Yokohama, Japan. The Lifelog Search Challenge is an interactive competition, founded by Cathal and Duc-Tien Dang-Nguyen in which research groups compete against each other in front of a live audience of conference attendees, to find the answers to eighteen challenging information needs from a large multimodal lifelog. The winning system was a Virtual Reality lifelog search engine that outperformed five other conventional systems from Europe and Asia.
