Dive into space with Insight
Have you ever dreamed of going into space or working in the space industry? Have you ever wondered how it would feel to be weightless? Well now is your chance!
As part of Science Week the Insight Centre for Data Analytics, the Irish Underwater Council (IUC) and Science Foundation Ireland are excited to announce Diving into Space, a unique event combining space, weightlessness and diving into a truly memorable experience for all ages.
The event will kick off with a chance to meet and hear from Ireland’s only Aquanaut Dr. Marc O’ Griofa who recently took part in NASA’s Extreme Environment Mission Operations programme (NEEMO) to the bottom of the sea, where the crew evaluated tools and techniques being tested for future deep space exploration. Marc will take his audience on a whirlwind adventure through the science of weightlessness and how SCUBA diving is used to train astronauts. Following that you will get a chance to meet some of the top people involved in SCUBA diving in Ireland. After the presentation, Ireland’s top SCUBA instructors will be on hand to bring you through the experience of weightlessness in the safety of the National Aquatic Centre.
This event will take place in the National Sports Campus Conference Centre, Blanchardstown on Sunday Nov 13th, from 12pm, moving over to the National Aquatic Centre for the in water experience from 1:30 – 3:30pm.
