Concern about teen addiction to smartphones - Prof Barry O'Sullivan talks to RTE's News at One
Prof Barry O'Sullivan was on the News at One today talking about the rising concerns around smartphone use among children. The interview was conducted on foot of an open letter written by two major Apple investors who called out the company for not doing enough to help mitigate the growing concerns about the effect that smartphone and social media use is having on children. O'Sullivan made the point that the average Irish teenager could read a novel per day in the time they spend looking at their phones. Additionally O'Sullivan called for Ireland to think again about its digital age of consent which will be set at 13, the lowest age allowable under European law, this summer.
